What a beautiful name for these ferries that ply the Samarahan River bringing with them hundreds of cars crossing the river each day. Primrose I and Primrose IX charge about RM1/vehicle for their services.

Now now… be careful when you drive your kancil up the ferry ramp… what we local would say “aim chun-chun (exactly)” first before driving up the ramp.

It went up but the back wheel went into the gap.

It slides down and then the front wheel got stuck. The look on the ferry guard was “???”

Then all the ferry guards came to push the little kancil out and up the ferry ramp… Cheers to the guards!!

And the ferries continued their services.

This is the older part of Kota Samarahan with just a few rows of ‘small’ shophouses serving the kampung (villages) embracing the area. Though Kota Samarahan has new shopshouses and beautiful houses nearer to the main road linking to UNIMAS and UiTM now, these shophouses are remnants of a past thriving kampung community – your friendly neighbourhood one-stop shopping cluster.

Shops here stock up everything imaginable from daily sundries, hardware to sewing paraphernalia.

And this is where I spent this recent weekend, bright and sunny, I was soaking in the heat, sights and sounds of folks going about their everyday business.

See how they manage their rubbish – ‘neatly’ pile up around the over-flowing bin on one side of the road :)

Bee hoon (rice vermicelli) cooked in tomato sauce… one of my favorite dishes! This plate of bee hoon tomato has extra side dish like the steamed green veggie and fried pork in sweet soy sauce, deboned chicken wing and fish fillets.

This one is different. It’s fried bee hoon with eggs, side dish of deboned chicken wing, deep fried prawns on skewers and fish fillets.

Both dishes can be found at a corner coffee shop at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho (opposite MBKS swimming pool).

This is where they used to be before landing on your plate ;)

Kidding!

Notes to animal rights activists: No bird was harm, in any form or shape, during the shooting of these pictures.

Hari Raya Puasa (the Muslim celebration of Syawal) is just around the corner. Muslims are busy cleaning and decorating their houses for this yearly occasion. Flowers is one of those never out of place, never out of season piece of must-have ornament. And I do mean never out of season and  wither-proof… that’s why you find these ‘forever blooming’ flowers everywhere in town around this time.

I really don’t mind one of these loofah ‘flowers’… I could sure use a bit of scrub ;)
