I was at my friend’s house, snooping around her garden with my camera and came across these huge hibiscus. I was told it’s a hybrid hibiscus plant.

These are the normal breed hibiscus. The bud is longer.

The petals are thinner and the flower looks smaller while the hybrid has ‘curly’ petals.

Another group of Americans were here last week. Since it was still durian season, Rich and Chad had to go through the ‘welcome to Kuching initiation test’!! I must say “to like Kuching is to love durians!” :)

A beautiful day to be outdoor. I had a couple of errands to run downtown so I took the opportunity to shoot the blue blue sky of Kuching!

Most of you would recognise this welcoming arch of Padungan.

Last Saturday, I was at the launching of the book, “Nonah or The Ghost of Gunung Mulu”. It was a gathering of friends, families, children from the SCCS, press, authors to witness the launching of this new book. “Payah” series are books with local flair.

The author, Margaret Lim, proudly I say she’s my aunt. (I know, I know with my sort of writing ’skill’… you’d probably think I’m adopted!) ;)

dscn6717

Aunt Maggie and her daughter, Su Jen who has been doing the illustrations for all her books. Beautiful work Su Jen!

Read more on the book launch in the STAR online.

It is my pleasure to introduce to you the fourth adventure of Payah. Payah, an eight year old Kayan girl, lives an adventurous, fun-filled life in the interior of Sarawak, Belaga.

In this fourth book, she heads out to Gunung Mulu with her school mates after winning an essay competition…there the adventure of Payah, Usun, Precious Jade and Nonah begins!
