What a hot afternoon to be wandering around Main Bazaar! After a shopping spree at the handicraft shops I ended up at a coffee shop next to the Hainan Association building at Carpenter Street. Why this particular coffee shop (kopitiam)? Well, I know for sure I can have the sotong (cuttlefish) with pickled cucumber and belacan bee hoon (rice vermicelli with shrimp paste sauce) and a tall glass of kopi-o peng (cold black coffee).


Belacan bee hoon with beansprouts, shredded cucumber, sliced cuttlefish, a quarter of a hard-boiled egg and of course chili sauce on the side.
