It is known as rose apple or water apple (Eugenia aquea). A beautiful name for a beautiful fruit. Locally we called it jambu air (direct translation is ‘guava water’).
water apple

It sure doesn’t look or taste like apple or guava. Though it is crunchy, (sometime very) sweet and juicy but the texture is different. The fresh is white with a tiny seed inside.

Some people like to sprinkle it with sour plum powder or if you’re like me I’ll season it with black soy sauce with sugar. The saltiness of the soy and the crunchiness of jambu and sugar…just melt in your mouth… slurp…slurp…

Between the red and the green… well… I like both!! Coz I’m greedy and I’m always hungry! 😉
