It was a dream of freedom for the early Chinese in Sarawak but a few days ago it was a dream came through for me to finally meet the author behind this book.

It’s a book filled with black and white old pictures and a few chapters written about the early Chinese migrants, their lives in South Sea (Nanyang), their toils and homesickness and how they band together to survive their hardships working in the mines.

I like history books like these – it’s informative yet not bogged down with words. The black and white pictures are priceless!

This is the great and honorable man himself, Dr Paul Yong Min Hian – a scholar, an architect, a quantity surveyor, a chartered builder all rolled into one. It took him 2 years and in-depth research to write this book.

My personal copy of “A Dream of Freedom” 😉
