Gambier Street used to be the hustle and bustle in the heart of Kuching. All the old shops, fish market, vegie market, garment warehouse which were all part of Kuching history had made way for another waterfront.
Where life once roamed this street… where are they now?
I love my Kuching but constructions of this and that have ripped away what was part of a Sarawak history. Sigh! Sigh! Sob! Sob!

hi. i’m really sad. this place should be taken care as the heritage of Kuching.
i went and had a tour with a group of people who were trying hard to oppose the plan to demolish this place. after had the tour, after we were given briefing about the old kuching town, which started from tua pek khong to masjid bahagian, i realized, that is the real kuching. that is the part of kuching that we should preserved. we should taken care of these places, like we taking care of the old courthouse.
try to go jalan-jalan at the brooke dockyard, beside masjid bahagian. the building besides the dockyard, really nice. it was an old and antique building. they built it by using old technologies. if u go there, u can see, the end of the beams of the building are actually hooked outside. that was the old fashion way of building the shophouse. and the cement that they used for that building, they used lime @ kapur to be used as mortar and paste it on the wall of the building. the bricks, etc, are the ancient technology.
i really hope, govt won’t touch this building. hopefully, they do something to make the buildings more secured in term of fire hazards.
same goes with the curry shops, near masjid india. that shops, are built byg using old technologies. govt really should do something, as i never wanna see the building collapse or caught in fire (like the one which caught by fire last time).
and yes, i wrote about the gambier market @ pasar ceko in my blog, and i landed in your blog. i already link your blog in my entry.
keep up the good job!
